The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is a public university headquartered in Adelphi, Maryland, United States. Established in 1947, it is one of the largest distance-learning institutions in the world, catering primarily to adult learners and serving military personnel and their families worldwide.

History[edit | edit source]

UMGC traces its roots to the establishment of the College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) by the University of Maryland, College Park in 1947. Initially offering evening classes for adult learners, CSCS expanded its offerings and adopted the name University of Maryland University College (UMUC) in 1970. In 2019, the university rebranded as the University of Maryland Global Campus to better reflect its global reach and online focus.

Academics[edit | edit source]

UMGC offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as certificate programs, entirely online. The university is renowned for its focus on adult education and its commitment to serving military personnel and their families. Programs are offered in various fields, including business administration, cybersecurity, education, healthcare, information technology, and more.

Reportedly, there are no proctored exams at UMGC. Grading seems to be fair.
